Pacquiao vs Marquez 3: Who will win?

There is less than two weeks until Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez get ready to go to war for a third time.

With 24 rounds between them, and much unfinished business left inside the ring, their Nov. 12 bout will be worth three times as much as previous fights. It could very well end up being the most significant moment of their legendary careers.

A win for either guy will mean they should have deserved victories in the first two fights, but it’s Pacquiao who comes into this one with the upper hand in the form of a split-decision victory.

He has followed that win with a pound-for-pound list of beaten opponents, and has placed himself at the top of sport.

The closest Marquez got to defeating the Filipino superstar was a 2004 draw, in a fight that saw him get off the canvas three times in the very first round.

Marquez’s only loss since the 2008 bout with Pacquiao was a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr, who is arguably the second best boxer in the sport.

SACRAMENTO—Rivalries in sports are the stuff of legend and history.
The Yankees vs the Red Sox. Chris Evert vs Martina Navratilova. Jack Nicklaus vs Arnold Palmer. Magic Johnson vs Larry Bird. Muhammad Ali vs Joe Frazier.
Not since the Louisville Lip and the guy called Smokin’ Joe fought three classic fights in the early 1970s has a rivalry in the sweet science had higher stakes, psychological and personal, like the current bad blood between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Pacquiao-Mayweather hasn’t been a contest of equals. Never will be. And until their feud finally reaches its gladiatorial aspect—a clash in the ring someday—it would, as fueled by fan allegiance, sustain more intensity.
Gone is the heyday of screaming aficionados in cauldron-hot boxing stadiums and packed close-circuit television halls. The iron grip on fan loyalty is now measured by the present-day barometer of a fighter’s worth—the number of pay-per-view buys for championship bouts he lends his star power to.
And so the hype goes on for the only title belt Pacquiao and Mayweather are able to contest—that of boxing’s PPV king.
The Mayweather camp is now at a fever pitch promoting his Sept. 17 bout with fellow American Victor Ortiz. Pacquiao’s handlers, meantime, are frantically creating interest for his third fight with Mexican warrior Juan Manuel Marquez on Nov. 12.
All in the name of the mighty pay-per-view buck.
Both fights will be broadcast by PPV heavyweight HBO from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao trainer Freddie Roach is confident as ever that Pacquiao-Marquez III will end up the way he envisions it: A lopsided win for the Filipino boxing icon.
But something’s bugging the Hall of Fame trainer a little bit, according to Ring Magazine, known as the bible of boxing.
Pacquiao and Marquez fought to a draw in 2004 and Pacquiao won a split decision over the Mexican in 2008—leaving one nagging question unanswered: Who is the better fighter of the two?
According to a Ring Magazine report, Roach told news reporters at the Beverly Hills Hotel during the news conference and photo opportunity for the protagonists Wednesday that “sometimes people have people’s number.”
“I think guys have a style that you have difficulty with. This (Marquez’s) could be one of them,” Roach told the media.
“Will Manny fall into the trap, fall into Marquez’s plan like he did in those fights?” Roach continued. “You never know.”
Although Marquez at 38 is six years older than Pacquiao, Roach said he still has a lot of respect for Juan Manuel, whom he describes as the “best counterpuncher on the planet.”
Then again, Roach said his fighter “doesn’t go in recklessly like he did in the first two fights.”
He explained that “Manny doesn’t fall into the traps of a counterpuncher. He knows how to feint now. He uses in and out motions. You don’t know whether he’s coming or going.”

Marquez dangerous fighter to Manny Pacquiao

MANILA, Philippines – Juan Manuel Marquez isn’t given much of a chance to upset WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao in their 12-round bout in Las Vegas on Nov. 12 but despite the 8-1 odds favoring the Filipino icon, Top Rank chairman Bob Arum is convinced the Mexican is a dangerous opponent who can’t be taken lightly.

“Those are crazy odds,” said Arum, referring to the betting line, during his recent visit to Manila to kick off the World Press Tour for the fight. “Anytime Manny fights, he’s going to be the big favorite because he’s just so popular. If it’s not Manny fighting, the odds will be different under the same circumstances. Remember that Manny and Marquez fought twice before and both fights were close. So it doesn’t really make sense to put Manny an 8-1 favorite for the third fight. But that’s Manny. If it were two other fighters with the same history, the odds would probably be even.”

Arum said what makes Marquez a tough opponent for Pacquiao is his counter-punching style.

“Sure, Marquez is a dangerous opponent for Manny,” said Arum. “You saw how close their first two fights were. Marquez has to be the best counterpuncher in boxing today. He’s very effective when up against someone who attacks like Manny. It’s his style. Marquez likes it when his opponent charges in.”

Arum pointed out that when Marquez battled Floyd Mayweather Jr., he faced a fighter who wouldn’t engage. Mayweather badly outclassed Marquez and won on a lopsided unanimous decision. “Mayweather took Marquez out of his style,” explained Arum. “He didn’t engage, he moved around and popped from a distance. That’s how you beat Marquez because he’s not able to counterpunch effectively against a guy who isn’t taking the fight to him.”

Pacquiao and Mayweather are poles apart in terms of fighting style. Pacquiao is a relentless volume puncher who puts a lot of pressure on his opponents while Mayweather is a slickster, using his boxing skills to control the pace of the fight. It’s what makes a Pacquiao-Mayweather showdown a potential box office blockbuster.

Another thing about Marquez that impressed Arum is his ability to recover from a sticky situation. “Marquez has gone down in a lot of fights,” he said. “Against Manny, he was floored four times, thrice in the first fight and once in the second. But he never gave up and in fact, took Manny to the limit twice. He was decked by Juan Diaz and Michael Katsidis but got up to come back firing. That’s also what makes Marquez such an exciting fighter. He refuses to surrender.”

To warm up for Pacquiao, Marquez took on Colombian Likar Ramos, a southpaw, in Mexico last July 16. What was supposed to be a workout turned out to be a cakewalk as Marquez knocked out Ramos at 1:47 of the first. Boxing News writer Kenneth Sam-Bouhairie wondered about Ramos’ backbone as it appeared the Colombian took the easy way out before getting seriously hurt. “Never before have I seen a fighter fall in that manner, attempting to regain his balance, falling and then closing his eyes once his butt hits the canvas,” he wrote. “It doesn’t explain (Ramos) being knocked out cold on the canvas after seemingly bracing himself for the fall.”

Marquez, 28, raised his record to 53-5-1, including 39 KOs, and shut the lights out on Ramos with a perfect right straight – the same punch he’ll use in trying to penetrate Pacquiao’s left-handed defense.

Do you think that Manny Pacquiao is going to retire soon? He will probably fight one more fight after this year then I’m sure he will concentrate on his government job. Or maybe not, he might just fight for couple of more years till his skills diminished.

I think that Manny Pacquiao is still in his prime and will continue to fight couple more years or maybe even longer. I guess we won’t really know till someone out there will give him a fight for his money. That someone, if you know who I’m talking about will ever fight him.

Does Manny Pacquiao even know anything about Politics? How can Manny Pacquiao balance boxing, family and politics at the same time? why is he even in politics? I guess maybe he’s just following some of the famous Filipino movie stars who got into politics?

How can a 31 year old boxing superstar, who is in his prime of his career suddenly just run of seat at the senate? This is going to be the reason that the Pacquiao versus Mayweather fight never took place. We all know that he wants to make things right for the people in his community, but there are real politicians that are capable of doing that. Manny Pacquiao should continue his career in boxing and just forget about politics till you’re in 50 or older.

When is the Manny Pacquiao fight againts Mayweather? Will this fight ever going to be a reality? Both sides are still in the negotiation, but clearly Pacquiao wants to fight Mayweather. This will probably the last and final fight for Manny Pacquiao. Manny Pacquiao recently won a seat in the recent political election in the Philippines.

A recent source say that the fight will take place around Dec, 2010 either in Dallas or Las Vegas, NV. This will be the toughest fight for both fighters and will also be the highest paid fight for both fighters. Just who exactly is going to come out a winner? Most people predict that Mayweather will come out victorias because of his size and power. Since it’s probably Manny Pacquiao last fight, he will come out aggressive and all out fight till the end.

But we will not know till the fight is finalize and it’s a sure fight that is going to take place around Dec, 2010. Boxing fans will surely enjoy this fight and surely be the biggest boxing fight in recent history of this sport.

Most vendors were sold out during the first hour and demanded more of the pirated dvds from suppliers. The Pacquiao dvds sell for about a dollar each and come with a promotional sleeve cover.
